3573—“Do not fast on these days, for they are days of eating and drinking.”
Aḥmad narrated it in al-Musnad (3/494) through Qatādah, from Sulaymān ibn Yasār, from Ḥamzah al-Aslamī:
He saw a man on a camel going around the people’s encampments at Minā, while the Prophet, peace be upon him, was present. The man was saying: … and he mentioned it.
Qatādah said: We were informed that this caller was Bilāl.
Al-Nasāʾī also narrated it through this route in al-Sunan al-Kubrā (2/165/2875/1), but without Qatādah’s statement. He mentioned the disagreement concerning its chain of transmission from Sulaymān ibn Yasār, and that Sālim Abū al-Naḍr and ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Bakr agreed in narrating it from Sulaymān ibn Yasār, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ḥudhāfah:
The Prophet, peace be upon him, commanded him to proclaim during the Days of Tashrīq: “They are days of eating and drinking.”
I say: This is an authentic chain of transmission.
He then mentioned another disagreement concerning Sulaymān ibn Yasār.
He then cited several supporting reports for it, including one from ʿAmr ibn Dīnār, from Nāfiʿ ibn Jubayr ibn Muṭʿim, from Bishr ibn Suḥaym, attributed to the Prophet, with similar wording.
Its chain of transmission is also authentic.
There are also reports on this subject from a number of other Companions; al-Haythamī collected their hadiths in Majmaʿ al-Zawāʾid (3/202–204).
