“He told me: ...” and did not mention the phrase, “His son Amir came to him ...”
This is the correct version, as confirmed by the first chain. Moreover, Kathir ibn Zayd al-Aslami was prone to error, as stated in al-Taqrib. *
3515—“Indeed, Allah has protective jealousy, and the believer has protective jealousy. Allah’s protective jealousy is aroused when a believer commits what He has forbidden him.”
Recorded by al-Bukhari (5223), Muslim (8/101), Ibn Hibban (293), al-Tirmidhi (1168)—who graded it authentic—al-Bayhaqi in his Sunan (10/225) and in The Names and Attributes (482), and Ahmad (2/343, 519–520, 536, and 539), all through the chain of Abu Salamah, from Abu Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: ... and he mentioned it. *
3516—“Indeed, Allah, Blessed and Exalted, says: ‘Fasting is for Me, and I Myself reward it.’
“The fasting person has two occasions of joy: when he breaks his fast, he rejoices; and when he meets Allah and He rewards him, he rejoices.
“By Him in whose Hand Muhammad’s soul is, the altered breath of the fasting person’s mouth is more pleasant to Allah than the fragrance of musk.”
Recorded by Muslim (3/158), al-Nasa’i (2/309 and 310), and Ahmad (3/5), through the chain of Abu Salih, from Abu Hurayrah and Abu Sa‘id, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: ... and he mentioned it. Al-Bukhari also recorded it (1904 and 7492) through the chain of Abu Salih al-Zayyat, who heard Abu Hurayrah say: ... and he mentioned it, with some variations in the order of its wording.
It has other chains with differing wordings; al-Hafiz al-Mundhiri compiled many of their sound versions.
