But the hadith has many corroborating reports indicating that it has a basis. Some of them have preceded under nos. 916, 917, and 3430.
3510—“Perform ghusl on Friday and wash your heads, even if you are not in a state of janabah.”
Ibn Khuzaymah (3/129/1759), Ibn Hibban (4/196/2771), and Ahmad (1/265) all recorded it from Ibn Ishaq, who said: Muhammad ibn Muslim ibn Abd Allah ibn Shihab al-Zuhri narrated to me from Tawus al-Yamani, who said:
I said to Ibn Abbas, “They claim that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said ...” He then mentioned it, adding:
“And apply perfume?” Ibn Abbas said:
“As for perfume, I do not know; but as for bathing, then yes.”
Shuayb ibn Abi Hamzah also narrated it from al-Zuhri in the same manner. Al-Bukhari (884) and al-Bayhaqi (1/297) recorded it.
Ibrahim ibn Maysarah also corroborated al-Zuhri, narrating it from Tawus in the same manner. Al-Bukhari (885) and Muslim (3/4) recorded it.
The wording of Shuayb’s hadith as recorded by Ahmad (1/130) is that al-Zuhri was asked, “Is ghusl on Friday a duty?” He replied, “Salim ibn Abd Allah ibn Umar narrated to me that he heard Abd Allah ibn Umar say: I heard the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, say:
“Whoever among you comes to Friday prayer should perform ghusl.”
