and Ahmad (5/69), all through al-Hasan, who said: Amr ibn Taghlib narrated to us that wealth—or captives—were brought to the Messenger of Allah, and he distributed them, giving to some men and leaving others without a share. He then heard that those whom he had left out had taken offence, so he praised Allah and extolled Him, then said: … and he related the hadith.
Amr said: By Allah, I would not trade the statement of the Messenger of Allah for the finest red camels!
The addition in brackets is al-Bukhari’s wording. *
3495 — “As for the insecurity of the roads, only a little time will pass before a caravan sets out for Mecca without an escort.
“As for poverty, the Hour will not come until one of you goes about with his charity, finding no one to accept it from him. Then one of you will surely stand before Allah, with no veil between him and Allah, and no interpreter to interpret for him. He will say to him, ‘Did I not give you wealth?’ He will reply, ‘Yes.’ Then He will say, ‘Did I not send you a messenger?’ He will reply, ‘Yes.’ Then he will look to his right and see nothing but the Fire; then he will look to his left and see nothing but the Fire.
“So let each of you protect himself from the Fire, even with half a date; and if he cannot find that, then with a good word.”
It was recorded by al-Bukhari (1413), Ibn Hibban (7330), and al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir (The Great Lexicon) (17/94/224), all through Muhill ibn Khalifah al-Ta'i, who said: I heard Adi ibn Hatim say:
I was with the Messenger of Allah when two men came to him: one complaining of poverty and the other complaining of the insecurity of the roads. The Messenger of Allah said: … and he related it. *
