“Which mountain is this?” I said, “Uhud.” He said:

“By Him in whose Hand my soul is, I would not be pleased for it to belong to me as pieces of gold, which I would spend in the way of Allah, while retaining even a qirat from it.”

I said, “A qintar?” He said, “A qirat.” I said, “A qintar?” He said, “A qirat.” I said, “A qintar?” He repeated this several times, then said, “I mention only that which is less; I do not mention that which is more.”

It was recorded by Ahmad (5/149), Ibn Jarir al-Tabari in Tahdhib al-Athar, in the Musnad of Ibn Abbas (p. 247/407), and al-Tabarani in al-Muʿjam al-Awsat (3/284/3159).

I say: This is an authentic chain of transmission, for Abu Mansur al-Juhani—whose name was Maymun—was trustworthy, as Ibn Maʿin stated. The weakness of Salim ibn Abi Hafsah does not affect it, since he is corroborated by another narrator.

The hadith is also recorded, in a more complete form, by the two Sahihs and others, but without Abu Dharr’s words: “O Messenger of Allah, a qintar …,” and so on.

It is also cited in the sixth chapter of Book 24, the Book of Repentance and Asceticism, of Sahih al-Targhib.

• 3492 — “As for Abraham, look at your companion. As for Moses, he was a dark-complexioned man with curly hair, riding a red camel whose nose was tethered with a fiber rope. It is as though I can see him descending into the valley, reciting the talbiyah.”

It was recorded by al-Bukhari (3355 and 5913), Muslim (1/106), al-Bayhaqi (5/176), and Ahmad (1/277), from Mujahid, who said:
