Al-Ṭabarānī transmitted it (12/407–408/13503).
It also has another route: Saʿīd ibn Bashīr narrated it from Maṭar al-Warrāq, from Nāfiʿ, from Ibn ʿUmar, with the same wording. Al-Bayhaqī transmitted it in al-Sunan al-Kubrā (8/332–333).
I say: Its chain of transmission is good for supporting reports and corroborative chains.
It also has a supporting report from the hadith of Abū Hurayrah, attributed to the Prophet. Abū Dāwūd and others transmitted it. Ibn Ḥibbān, al-Dāraquṭnī, al-Ḥākim, and al-Dhahabī declared it authentic, although its chain contains an unidentified narrator, as I explained in al-Irwāʾ (8/34–35). *
3481 — “Whenever he came out from relieving himself, he would perform ablution.”
Aḥmad transmitted it (6/189) through the route of Jābir, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn al-Aswad, from his father, from ʿĀʾishah: that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, would ...
I say: The narrators of its chain of transmission are trustworthy and are narrators of the two Ṣaḥīḥs, except for this Jābir—Jābir ibn Yazīd al-Juʿfī—who is weak. Al-Haythamī said in Majmaʿ al-Zawāʾid (1/241):
“Aḥmad transmitted it, and its chain includes Jābir al-Juʿfī. Shuʿbah and Sufyān considered him trustworthy, while most people declared him weak.”
I say: It has an authentic mursal supporting report, transmitted by Ibn Abī Shaybah in al-Muṣannaf (1/193): Jarīr narrated to us from Manṣūr, from Ibrāhīm, who said:
“I was informed that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, would not enter the place of relieving himself without performing ablution or touching water.”
I say: This is an authentic mursal chain of transmission; its narrators are trustworthy and are narrators of the two Ṣaḥīḥs.
Some weak narrators have also related it with a connected chain of transmission. Thus Yaḥyā ibn Ṭalḥah al-Yarbuʿī said:
