Shaybah (13/150/15,962), Ahmad (3/284–285), Abu Nuʿaym in Sifat al-Jannah (253/417) and al-Hilyah (6/253), al-Bayhaqi in al-Baʿth (209/415), and al-Baghawi in Sharh al-Sunnah (15/226–227/4389) and likewise in al-Tafsir (1/76)—all narrated it through Hammad ibn Salamah, from Thabit al-Bunani, from Anas, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: ... and then cited it. Al-Baghawi said:
“This is an authentic hadith.”
The wording is Muslim’s, while the two additions are from Ibn Hibban, Ahmad, and others.
It has another route. Al-Darimi stated in his Sunan (2/338–339): Yazid ibn Harun informed us: Humayd informed us, from Anas, with a similar wording.
I say: This is an authentic chain of transmission, and it is a three-narrator chain, provided that Humayd—namely, al-Tawil—heard it from Anas. For most of what he narrated from Anas, he heard from Thabit, as more than one scholar has stated.
Some narrated it as attributed to the Companion. Thus, al-Husayn al-Marwazi said in Zawaʾid al-Zuhd (524–525/7491): Muhammad ibn Abi ʿAdi informed us: Humayd informed us, from Anas, who said: ... and then cited it, without attributing it to the Prophet.
Ibn Abi al-Dunya also narrated it in Sifat al-Jannah (81/252) through Ibn al-Mubarak: Humayd al-Tawil informed us, from Anas, as a report attributed to the Companion.
He was corroborated there (251) through Ibn al-Mubarak as well. It is also found in al-Zuhd (70/241—Nuʿaym), and in Ibn Abi Shaybah (13/102/15822), all through Sulayman al-Taymi, from Anas, as a report attributed to the Companion. *
