We created you the first time.” She then said: “O Messenger of Allah, what shame! Will men and women be gathered together, looking at one another’s private parts?” The Messenger of Allah said:
“‘Each person among them, that Day, will have enough to preoccupy him.’ Men will not look at women, nor women at men; they will be preoccupied with one another.”
Ibn Abi Hatim transmitted it in al-Tafsir (2/98/2–99/1), and al-Hakim (4/565)—the wording is his—through the route of Saʿid ibn Abi Hilal, from him. Al-Hakim said:
“Its chain of transmission is authentic.”
Al-Dhahabi rebutted this, saying:
“I say: There is a discontinuity in it!”
I say: Its point is not clear to me. What first comes to mind is that he meant a break between ʿUthman ibn ʿAbd al-Rahman al-Qurazi and Aishah, may Allah be pleased with her. Yet I have not identified this Ibn ʿAbd al-Rahman, and Ibn Abi Hatim did not name him, mentioning him only by his affiliation, al-Qurazi. It is therefore possible that he was Muhammad ibn Kaʿb al-Qurazi, of whom the biographical sources state—he being trustworthy—that he narrated from Aishah, may Allah be pleased with her. If this is established, then there is no discontinuity. And Allah knows best.
Al-Hafiz attributed this hadith in al-Fath (11/387) to al-Tirmidhi and al-Hakim. But I have not found it in Sunan al-Tirmidhi, so perhaps it was a slip of the pen by the author or copyist.
Her hadith is also recorded by al-Bukhari (6527), Muslim (8/159), al-Nasaʾi in al-Kubra (6/507/11648), Ibn Majah (4276), Ahmad (6/89–90), and Ibn Abi al-Dunya in al-Ahwal (236/232), through another route from Aishah, but without the phrase concerning being preoccupied.
Then I saw that al-Hafiz Ibn Kathir cited it in full in al-Nihayah (2/285), from the narration of
