Badr Shujaʿ ibn al-Walid said: I heard Ziyad ibn Khaythamah narrating from his father, from Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), that the Messenger of Allah said: “...” and he cited it. Al-Hakim said:
“Its chain of transmission is authentic, though the two did not record it.” Al-Dhahabi concurred with him.
I say: It is as they both said. Its narrators are trustworthy and have biographies in al-Tahdhib, apart from those who come after Abu Badr in the chain.
As for Ahmad ibn Yunus al-Dabbi, Ibn Abi Hatim said (1/1/81):
“We heard from him, and in our estimation he was truthful.”
Ibn Hibban mentioned him in al-Thiqat (8/51) and said:
“The people of Isfahan narrated from him.”
He has a biography in Akhbar Isfahan (1/81), Tarikh Baghdad (5/223–224), and Siyar Aʿlam al-Nubalaʾ (12/595–596).
As for Abu Abd Allah Muhammad ibn Abd Allah al-Zahid al-Isfahani, he was al-Saffar. Al-Hakim narrated extensively from him, and al-Hafiz al-Dhahabi described him in Siyar Aʿlam al-Nubalaʾ (15/437) as:
“the imam, the hadith scholar, the exemplary model ...”
The hadith also has corroborating reports, including that of Abu Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of Allah said: “...” He then cited it in a somewhat abridged form, adding at its end:
“They will not fear when people fear, nor will they grieve when people grieve.” Then he recited this verse:
“Surely, the allies of Allah shall have no fear, nor shall they grieve.”
