“Abu Zur‘ah narrated from ‘Amr ibn Jarir, from Abu Hurayrah, that he would wipe over his leather socks and say: ‘The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: When one puts his feet into his leather socks ...’”—and so on.
This contains a grave error, perhaps introduced by one of the copyists. The correct wording is:
“... Abu Zur‘ah ibn ‘Amr ibn Jarir said: ‘I saw Jarir wipe over his leather socks.’ He said: ‘And Abu Zur‘ah said: Abu Hurayrah said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: When one enters ...’”—and so on.
This is how Ibn Abi Shaybah recorded it (1/179 and 183). It is the same report that I previously noted having traced in al-Sahihah at the beginning of this documentation. Thus, the wiping mentioned was done by Jarir, not Abu Hurayrah. The correct wording is: “Abu Zur‘ah ibn ‘Amr ...,” not “Abu Zur‘ah from ‘Amr ...” He is known to narrate from his grandfather, Jarir ibn ‘Abd Allah al-Bajali, and has no narration from his father, ‘Amr ibn Jarir. *
The Prophet’s supplication against rulers who harm the Ummah and do not rule according to the sunnah
3456—“O Allah, whoever is entrusted with any affair of my Ummah and makes things difficult for them, make things difficult for him; and whoever is entrusted with any affair of my Ummah and treats them kindly, treat him kindly.”
It is narrated from Aishah, may Allah be pleased with her, through several chains:
The first: From Harmalah ibn ‘Imran al-Tujibi, from ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Shimāsah, who said:
I came to Aishah to ask her about something. She asked, “Where are you from?” I replied, “I am a man from the people of Egypt.” She asked, “How was your commander toward you in this campaign of yours?” He said, “We found nothing to fault in him. If one of our men lost his camel, he would give him a camel; if he lost a servant, he would give him a servant; and if he needed provisions, he would give him provisions.” She said, “What he did to my brother Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr does not prevent me from telling you ...”
