If this is established, then al-Daraqutni and al-Dhahabi declared the man reliable. Accordingly, the chain of transmission is authentic, praise be to Allah.
Ismaʿil ibn ʿAyyash differed from Abu al-Yaman in its chain of transmission, saying: “From Safwan ibn ʿAmr, from ʿAbd al-Rahman ibn Jubayr ibn Nufayr, from his father, from his grandfather,” attributing it to the Prophet, and he cited it in full. However, regarding the hypocrite, he said: “then he seeks”!
Al-Daylami recorded it in Musnad al-Firdaws (3/160—al-Gharaʾib al-Multaqatah), through Abu Muhammad al-Khallal: al-Husayn ibn Ahmad ibn al-ʿAbbas al-Mawsili narrated to us; Khalid ibn Mirdas narrated to us; Ismaʿil ibn ʿAyyash narrated to us …
This is a chain whose narrators are reliable, except for this al-Hasan ibn Ahmad al-Mawsili, whom I have not been able to identify. Perhaps the discrepancy originated with him.
A corroborating report for its first sentence—“Do not dispute about the Quran”—has already preceded under no. 2419, with the addition:
“For disputation concerning it is disbelief.”
Beneath it is a corroborating report for the sentence, and another for the addition, with the wording:
“Contentious disputation over the Quran is disbelief.”
It is referenced in al-Rawd al-Nadir (1124 and 1125). Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr deemed it authentic in al-Jamiʿ (2/928—Ibn al-Jawzi), and claimed that no other version is authentic! See the documentation by Brother Abu
