Isma'il ibn al-Mu'alla al-Ansari also narrated it from Yusuf ibn Tahman in an abridged form, like the hadith cited in the heading, adding:
“Whoever leaves in a state of ritual purity, intending nothing but this mosque of mine”—meaning the mosque of Medina—“to pray therein, will have the equivalent of a Hajj.”
This is a rejected addition. Al-Bayhaqi cited it in suspended form from Yusuf ibn Tahman after the hadith cited in the heading, indicating that the flaw lay with this Yusuf. Al-Mundhiri said:
“Yusuf ibn Tahman alone narrated this addition, and he is very weak. And Allah knows best.”
I say: Its narrator from him, Isma'il ibn al-Mu'alla al-Ansari, is unknown, as Abu Hatim and al-Dhahabi said. No one narrated from him other than Ya'qub ibn Muhammad al-Zuhri, who is weak. Yet Ibn Hibban included him in al-Thiqat (36/43), one of hundreds of examples demonstrating his laxity in grading narrators reliable. Thus, the flaw in this addition may lie with him, since he alone narrated it, unlike Musa ibn Ubaydah’s narration from the feeble Ibn Tahman. And Allah knows best.
Note: Al-Bukhari cited the following after Isma'il’s hadith:
“Ibn Rafi' said: Zayd ibn Hubab narrated to us: Muhammad ibn Sulayman al-Kirmani al-Madani narrated to us; he heard Abu Hurayrah narrate from the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, a report like it. Zayd also mentioned: Ubayd ibn Mihsan al-Azdi informed me that he heard Abu Umamah ibn Sahl narrate from his father, from the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. And Zayd narrated from Musa ibn Ubaydah, from Yusuf ibn Tahman, from Abu Umamah, from the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, a report like it.”
I say: I do not know whether Imam al-Bukhari, by his words, “a report like it,” intended a report like Isma'il’s preceding hadith in both its parts, or whether he intended only its first part, concerning Quba Mosque. The latter is what appears likely to me—and Allah knows best—because the hadith of al-Kirmani and the hadith of Musa ibn Ubaydah
