“benefiting from Eastern manuscript copies, employing the modern method of photocomposition, and keeping before our eyes, above all, the verification and integrity of texts...”!
How aptly it has been said: “Read and rejoice; put it to the test and grieve!” Allah is the One whose help is sought.
- When he wished to sleep, he would say:
“O Allah, Originator of the heavens and the earth, Knower of the unseen and the seen, Lord of all things and God of all things, I bear witness that there is no god but You, alone, without partner; and that Muhammad is Your servant and Messenger—and the angels bear witness. Ibn Lahiʿah corroborated him, saying: “Huyayy ibn Abdullah narrated to us that Abu Abd al-Rahman al-Hubuli told him:”
Abdullah ibn Amr brought out for us a sheet of paper and said: “The Messenger of Allah, Allah bless him and grant him peace, used to teach us, saying...” He then mentioned the supplication, with slight differences in some of its wording, and added:
Abu Abd al-Rahman said: “The Messenger of Allah, Allah bless him and grant him peace, used to teach Abdullah ibn Amr to say this when he wished to sleep.”
Ahmad recorded it (2/171): “Hasan narrated to us from Ibn Lahiʿah,” with this chain.
