“By Allah, you love the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, more intensely than those who saw him—or than most of those who saw him.”
Al-Bazzār said:
“We know of no chain of transmission for it from ʿAmmār other than this one.”
I say: Its chain of transmission is weak, owing to the weakness of Ibn Lahīʿah and the unknown status of ʿAbd Allāh ibn Dāwūd al-Ḥarrānī, for I have found no biographical notice of him. Moreover, its text—even as a report attributed to the Companion—is rejected. And Allah knows best.
Al-Haythamī said:
“Al-Bazzār and al-Ṭabarānī narrated it. Its chain includes ʿAbd Allāh ibn Dāwūd al-Ḥarrānī, the brother of ʿAbd al-Ghaffār, whom I do not know; the remaining narrators in al-Bazzār’s chain transmit good hadiths.” *
- “Public bathhouses are forbidden for the women of my community.”
Al-Ḥākim recorded it (4/289), saying: Ismāʿīl ibn Muḥammad ibn al-Faḍl ibn Muḥammad al-Shaʿrānī informed us: My grandfather narrated to us: Saʿīd ibn Abī Maryam narrated to us: Nāfiʿ ibn Yazīd narrated to us: Yaḥyā ibn Abī Usayd narrated to me, from ʿUbayd ibn Abī Suwayyah, that he heard Subayʿah al-Aslamiyyah say:
A group of women from Syria entered upon ʿĀʾishah. ʿĀʾishah asked, “Where are you from?” They replied, “From the people of Homs.” She asked, “Are you women who frequent public bathhouses?” They said, “Yes.” ʿĀʾishah, may Allah be pleased with her, said: “I heard the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, say...” Then she related the hadith.
One of the women said, “I have daughters whose hair I comb using this liquor.” ʿĀʾishah asked, “What liquor?” She replied, “Wine.” ʿĀʾishah, may Allah be pleased with her, said: “Would you feel at ease combing your hair with pig’s blood?” She said, “No.” ʿĀʾishah said, “Then it is the same.”
Al-Ḥākim said:
“Its chain of transmission is authentic.” Al-Dhahabī concurred with him, and al-Ḥāfiẓ al-ʿIrāqī endorsed it in his documentation
