“O assembly of Emigrants! You have begun to increase ...” The hadith is reported in similar but abridged wording.
Al-Hakim (4/78) and al-Tabarani in al-Muʿjam al-Kabir (19/79) narrated it through Sufyan ibn Husayn, from al-Zuhri, from Abdullah ibn Kaʿb ibn Malik, from his father. Al-Hakim said:
“Its chain of transmission is authentic!”
Al-Dhahabi agreed with him.
I say: Sufyan ibn Husayn is weak in his narrations from al-Zuhri. Maʿmar, however, differed from him and reported: Al-Zuhri said: Abdullah ibn Abd al-Rahman ibn Kaʿb informed me, from his father—whose own father was one of the three whose repentance was accepted—from a man among the Companions of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him:
The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, rose to deliver a sermon ... the hadith.
Abd al-Razzaq transmitted it (11/63/19917), and al-Tabarani transmitted it from him (19/79/159), but he did not mention the man who was a Companion.
Shuʿayb also narrated it from al-Zuhri, through his chain from the unnamed Companion, but he did not say, “from his father.”
Ahmad transmitted it (3/500), as did he in Fadaʾil al-Sahabah (2/790–791/1412). *
- “The best of people are my generation, to which I belong; then those who follow them, [then those who follow them]. Then there will arise people among whom corpulence becomes widespread; they will give testimony without being asked to testify, and there will be clamour in their marketplaces.”
Al-Bazzar transmitted it in al-Bahr al-Zakhkhar (1/370/248) through Abu Dawud al-Tayalisi; it is also in his Musnad (p. 6/32): Hammad ibn Yazid—a Basran, from whom
