- Among them is what al-Bazzar himself narrated through Muhammad ibn Ishaq, from Muhammad ibn Jaʿfar ibn al-Zubayr, from ʿUrwah, from ʿAʾishah, who said:
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, came out and led the people in prayer. He then counselled the people to treat one another well, and said: “To proceed…”—the hadith, in a similar but abbreviated form.
Al-Haythami said:
“Al-Bazzar narrated it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.”
That is what he said! Yet this reflects his well-known leniency, for Muslim only included Ibn Ishaq as a corroborating narrator. Moreover, he practised tadlis and narrated it with an ambiguous “from.” Still more lax is al-Hafiz’s statement in al-Mukhtasar (2/372):
“I say: In my view, it is an authentic chain of transmission.”
Unless he meant that it is authentic due to supporting evidence—which is unlikely. And Allah knows best.
- Among them is the report from Anas ibn Malik, who said:
Abu Bakr passed by a gathering of the Ansar while they were weeping. He said, “What is making you weep?” They replied, “We recalled the gatherings of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, among us.” So he entered upon the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and informed him of this. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, then came out and ascended the pulpit, which he did not ascend again after that day. He praised Allah and extolled Him, then said:
“I enjoin you to treat the Ansar well, for they are my intimate circle and my trusted confidants. They have fulfilled what was due from them, and what is due to them remains. So accept the good done by their righteous, and overlook the wrongs of their wrongdoers.”
It was narrated by al-Bukhari (3799) and al-Nasaʾi in al-Sunan al-Kubra (5/91/8346).
- Among them is the report from Abu Qatadah al-Ansari, who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, saying from the pulpit to the Ansar:
