When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) looked at the Kaaba, he said:
“Welcome, O House! ...” and so forth.
I say: This is a good chain of transmission. Its narrators are reliable and are among the narrators of the two Sahihs, apart from Hafs ibn Abd al-Rahman—the Nishapuri judge. Al-Dhahabi, in al-Kashif, and al-Asqalani, in al-Taqrib, both said: “Truthful.”
The hadith also has another route, narrated by Mujalid from al-Sha‘bi from Ibn Abbas: that the Prophet looked at the Kaaba and said: “How great is your sanctity! ...” and so forth.
This is how Mujalid—ibn Sa‘id—narrated it. He is not a strong narrator, but the report has the ruling of one attributed to the Prophet, particularly since someone more reliable than him explicitly attributed it to the Prophet in the first route.
Ibn Abi Shaybah recorded this route in al-Musannaf (9/362/7804). Its narrators are reliable and are among the narrators of the two Sahihs, apart from Mujalid, whose status you now know. I would add here that Muslim cited him in a corroborating chain, as mentioned in al-Mizan and elsewhere.
It also has a stronger corroborating report attributed to the Companion, recorded by al-Tirmidhi (2032) from Ibn Umar in a hadith with a good chain of transmission. Al-Tirmidhi graded it good, and Ibn Hibban declared it authentic. It is documented in Ghayat al-Maram (240/240) and al-Ta‘liq al-Raghib (3/177/10).
I then found a third route for it, narrated by al-Hasan ibn Abi Ja‘far: Layth ibn Abi Sulaym narrated to us from Tawus, from Ibn Abbas, who said:
