- Qurrah al-Muzanī related, concerning the death of his young son and the Prophet’s offering him condolences, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
“O so-and-so, which would you prefer: to enjoy his company throughout your life, or to come tomorrow to one of the gates of Paradise and find that he has preceded you to it and opens it for you?”
He said, “O Prophet of Allah, that he should precede me to the gate of Paradise and open it for me would be dearer to me.” He said:
“Then that is yours.”
A man from among the Anṣār then said, “O Messenger of Allah, may Allah make me your ransom! Is this particular to him, or does it apply to all of us?” He said:
“Rather, it applies to all of you.”
Al-Ḥākim and al-Dhahabī graded it authentic. It is referenced in Aḥkām al-Janāʾiz (p. 205), and the ḥadīth master likewise graded it authentic in al-Fatḥ (3/121). *
- “Indeed, whoever drinks from a vessel of silver [or gold] is only gulping the fire of Hell into his belly—unless he repents.”
Al-Ṭabarānī recorded it in al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr (23/388–389/928): Aḥmad ibn Zuhayr al-Tustarī reported to us; ʿUbayd Allah ibn Saʿd reported to us; my father reported to me; his father reported to me from Ṣāliḥ ibn Kaysān; Nāfiʿ informed us that Zayd ibn ʿAbd Allah told him that ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī Bakr told him that Umm Salamah informed him that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said it … and he then mentioned it.
I say: This is an authentic chain of transmission. Its narrators are trustworthy men whose reports are found in al-Bukhārī, with the exception of the shaykh
