Abū Yaʿlā recorded it in his Musnad (8/137–138/4679): Abū Hishām Muḥammad ibn Yazīd ibn Rifāʿah narrated to us: Isḥāq ibn Sulaymān al-Rāzī narrated to us: Muʿāwiyah narrated to us, from al-Zuhrī, from ʿUrwah, from ʿĀʾishah.
I say: This chain of transmission is weak, because Abū Hishām al-Rifāʿī was deemed weak by the majority. Al-Bukhārī said:
“I found them unanimously agreed upon his weakness.”
Muʿāwiyah is likewise weak—he is Muʿāwiyah ibn Yaḥyā al-Ṣadafī—and it was solely on his account that the annotator of Musnad Abū Yaʿlā declared the report defective!
As for al-Haythamī’s statement:
“Abū Yaʿlā narrated it, and its narrators are trustworthy,”
it is sheer error; I do not know how it could have come from him.
Further evidence of the aforementioned annotator’s scant learning and understanding is his statement:
“We say: Yet the previously cited hadith of Anas supports it …”
He means the Prophet’s saying, peace and blessings be upon him:
“Take the pre-dawn meal, for there is blessing in the pre-dawn meal.” Reported by al-Bukhārī and Muslim. (al-Rawḍ, 49 and 1089).
This is because it is an insufficient supporting report: it does not describe the pre-dawn meal as “the blessed breakfast.” So reflect. *
3409—“Indeed, Allah and His angels invoke blessings upon those who partake of the pre-dawn meal.”
Ibn Ḥibbān recorded it in his Ṣaḥīḥ (880—Mawārid), and al-Ṭabarānī in al-Muʿjam
