from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Masʿūd, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “…,” and he then cited it.
Ibn Abī Shaybah transmitted its second part in al-Muṣannaf (8/344/5430), and from him Abū Dāwūd (4779) and al-Ṭaḥāwī in Mushkil al-Āthār (2/253–254).
Its first part has a corroborating report from the hadith of Anas ibn Mālik, attributed to the Prophet. Al-Bazzār recorded it (1/406/860) with an authentic chain of transmission.
Abū Yaʿlā also recorded it (6/133/3408) through another route from him, together with the other part. Its chain is weak.
It—that is, the first part—has a second corroborating report from the hadith of Abū Hurayrah, attributed to the Prophet. Abū Yaʿlā recorded it (10/6032 and 6046) through Abū Khālid al-Aḥmar, from Hishām, from Ibn Sīrīn, from him. Its chain is authentic.
A third corroborating report is narrated from Buraydah, attributed to the Prophet, and includes an account. Al-Bazzār recorded it (1/405/857) with a good chain, as al-Ḥāfiẓ said in Mukhtaṣar al-Zawāʾid (1/345/554). It was also authenticated by al-Ḥākim and al-Dhahabī, and has been cited in Aḥkām al-Janāʾiz (207–208, al-Maʿārif edition).
Note: Al-Bukhārī and Abū Yaʿlā added a third passage at the beginning of Ibn Masʿūd’s hadith, worded: “Whose wealth is dearer to him than the wealth of his heir?” They said, “O Messenger of Allah, there is none among us whose own wealth is not dearer to him than the wealth of his heir!” He said, “Consider carefully what you are saying!” They said, “We know nothing other than that, O Messenger of Allah!” He said, “There is no man among you for whom the wealth of his heir is not dearer than his own wealth!”,
