Al-Ṭabarānī then also transmitted it (17/129/317), as did Ibn ʿAsākir, through two other routes from al-Aḥwaṣ, with this report; except that he joined ʿUtbah ibn ʿAbd al-Sulamī to Abū Umāmah. Al-Mundhirī (1/165/8) said:
“Al-Ṭabarānī transmitted it, and some of its narrators are disputed; the hadith also has numerous corroborating reports.”
I say: He is referring to al-Aḥwaṣ ibn Ḥakīm. Al-Haythamī made this clear, saying:
“Al-Ṭabarānī transmitted it, and its chain includes al-Aḥwaṣ ibn Ḥakīm. Al-ʿIjlī and others deemed him trustworthy, while a number of scholars declared him weak. The rest of its narrators are trustworthy, though there is disagreement concerning some of them that is of no consequence.” *
3404—“He would pray four units of prayer before the noon prayer—after the sun had passed its zenith—and say: ‘Indeed, the gates of heaven are opened [then], and I love to send forth a righteous deed at that time.’”
Imām Aḥmad transmitted it (3/411): Abū Dāwūd al-Ṭayālisī narrated to us: [Muḥammad ibn] Muslim ibn Abī al-Waḍḍāḥ narrated to us, from ʿAbd al-Karīm, from Mujāhid, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Sāʾib, who said: ... and then cited it.
Al-Tirmidhī also transmitted it (478) through the route of al-Ṭayālisī, from the same chain. He said:
“A good, singular hadith. It has also been narrated from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, that he would pray four units of prayer after the sun had passed its zenith, concluding with salām only at their end.”
I say: The chain of transmission is sound, and it meets Muslim’s criteria.
ʿAbd al-Karīm is Ibn Mālik al-Jazarī.
Abū Dāwūd al-Ṭayālisī is the hadith master Sulaymān ibn Dāwūd, compiler of the well-known Musnad that bears his name; however, this hadith is not found in it.
