the error, and further reinforced the misleading impression by attributing the hadith to both of them with reference numbers! (See their embellished edition, 4/290.)
Second: Some hadith scholars explicitly ascribed this addition to al-Bukhārī. Al-Ḥāfiẓ related in al-Fatḥ (11/382) that al-Ṭībī said:
“Then I saw in Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī, in the ‘Chapter on the Gathering’—meaning, the chapter containing the hadith with the number cited above—: ‘The people will be gathered on the Day of Resurrection ...’”
Third: Al-Ḥāfiẓ replied to him and took issue with him, commenting:
“I have not found the wording ‘on the Day of Resurrection’ in any of the chains of the hadith transmitted by al-Bukhārī, neither in his Ṣaḥīḥ nor elsewhere. The same is true of Muslim, al-Ismāʿīlī, and others: it does not contain the words ‘on the Day of Resurrection.’”
I say: Thus, the narration of al-Nasāʾī escaped him. Exalted is He whose knowledge encompasses all things.
3396—(If an amount of what is in Paradise that a fingernail could hold were to appear, the horizons of the heavens and the earth would be adorned by it. And if a man among the people of Paradise were to look out and his bracelets became visible, he would efface the light of the sun just as the sun effaces the light of the stars.)
It is a hadith of Saʿd ibn Abī Waqqāṣ (may Allah be pleased with him), and it has two chains from him:
The first is through ʿĀmir ibn Saʿd ibn Abī Waqqāṣ, and it has two routes:
- From Dāwūd ibn ʿĀmir ibn Saʿd ibn Abī Waqqāṣ, from his father, from his grandfather, from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who said: … Then he mentioned it.
