Silsilat al-Ahadith al-SahihahNasir al-Din al-Albani

in al-Tafsīr (5/176), and in Sharḥ al-Sunnah (15/124–125/4314)—where he declared it authentic—through numerous chains from Wuhayb, from Ibn Ṭāwūs, from his father, from Abū Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who said: … Then he mentioned it. Al-Ṭabarānī said:

“No one narrated it from Ibn Ṭāwūs except Wuhayb and Ibn Jurayj; Ḥajjāj al-Aʿwar was alone in narrating it from Ibn Jurayj.”

I say: I have not found any corroborating report for this narration of Ibn Jurayj.

Important Note: This is how the hadith is recorded in the sources cited, except for Sunan al-Nasāʾī, which relates it with the addition: “The people will be gathered on the Day of Resurrection.” This is undoubtedly an anomalous addition, and it also corrupts the meaning, for the riding mentioned in it is not among the terrors of the Day of Resurrection.

Credit for drawing attention to this addition in al-Nasāʾī goes to al-Ḥāfiẓ Ibrāhīm al-Nājī in his valuable work ʿAjālat al-Imlāʾ (fols. 224/2–225/1). Although he did not explicitly state that it was anomalous, he examined the meaning of the hadith, cited the scholars’ views concerning it, and collected the relevant portions of certain hadiths that conflict with this addition. He concluded his discussion by saying:

“All of this indicates that it takes place in this world, before the Hereafter. And Allah knows best.”

In this, he concurred with the conclusion reached by his teacher Ibn Ḥajar in al-Fatḥ (11/379–382). Ibn Ḥajar went into considerable detail in reporting and examining the scholars’ differing views on the matter, showing the strengths and weaknesses of each, and he preferred the view previously cited from his student. Whoever wishes may consult it.

Yet some people fell into errors concerning this addition, so it is useful to clarify them. I say:

First: al-Ḥāfiẓ al-Mundhirī mentioned the hadith in al-Targhīb (4/164/13) with this addition, attributing it to al-Bukhārī and Muslim. The three annotators—as is their habit—did not notice this and followed him in
