Usd al-Ghābah (2/372), al-Ṭabarānī in al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr (7/375–376/7235), and, through him, Abū Nuʿaym in Maʿrifat al-Ṣaḥābah [title struck out in the original], by two chains from Abū al-Mughīrah, who said: Ṣafwān ibn ʿAmr narrated to us; ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Jubayr narrated to us, from Abū Ṭawīl Shaṭab al-Mamdūd:
He came to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and said, “What do you say about a man who has committed every sin, leaving none of them undone, and who has pursued every desire, great and small? Is there any repentance for him?” He said, “Have you accepted Islam?”

I say: As for al-Ḥāfiẓ, he reported in al-Iṣābah from Ibn al-Sakan that he said: “No one narrated it except Abū Nashīṭ”—meaning, from Abū al-Mughīrah, from Ṣafwān ibn ʿAmr. Al-Ḥāfiẓ then criticized this statement, saying:
“I say: This restriction is untenable, for al-Ṭabarānī transmitted it by another route. Ibn Mandah said: ‘It is singular; Abū al-Mughīrah alone narrated it.’ I say: It meets the criteria of the Ṣaḥīḥ, and I have found…”
