(2/90), with some of its clauses; all of them through al-Layth ibn Saʿd, from al-Harith ibn Yaʿqub, from Qays ibn Rafiʿ al-Qaysi, from him. Al-Hakim said:
“Its chain of transmission is authentic.”
Al-Dhahabi agreed with him.
It is as they said. Its narrators are trustworthy and are among Muslim’s narrators, except for Qays ibn Rafiʿ al-Qaysi. He was a trustworthy Successor, from whom seven trustworthy narrators reported. Ibn Hibban listed him in al-Thiqat (5/315), and al-Hakim likewise declared him trustworthy among a group of Egyptian narrators (1/212).
As for the mosque clause—the fourth—there is a corroborating report from Abu Umamah, attributed to the Prophet, with the wording:
“Three are all guaranteed by Allah ...”
The hadith includes:
“Whoever goes out to the mosque is guaranteed by Allah ...”
It was transmitted by Abu Dawud and others, and authenticated by Ibn Hibban, al-Hakim, and al-Dhahabi. It has been fully documented in Sahih Abi Dawud (2253) and elsewhere.
Note: Among the remarkable instances of omission, inattention, and lack of verification is that the hadith heading this entry, despite beginning with the phrase “six qualities,” does not contain six such qualities in Husam al-Din al-Maqdisi’s edition of Majmaʿ al-Zawaʾid: clauses (3) and (5) are absent. It appears that this omission is old, originating either with al-Haythami himself or with one of his copyists, for it occurs in the same way in al-Suyuti’s al-Jamiʿ al-Saghir. This indicates that al-Suyuti frequently transmitted from it and relied upon it, rather than quoting directly from the original sources; consequently, his errors resemble those of others. The same occurred in Kanz al-ʿUmmal (5/894/43536).
Al-Manawi then followed this in his two commentaries on al-Jamiʿ al-Saghir, al-Fayd and al-Taysir, explaining it without noticing the discrepancy between the number stated and the items enumerated. Indeed, he also cited it in the same manner in his book entitled al-Jamiʿ al-Azhar (1/255/1), together with evidence indicating
