from a copyist. This is supported by al-Haythami’s statement in Majmaʿ al-Zawaʾid (7/278):
“Al-Tabarani narrated it in al-Awsat, and its chain contains Isa ibn Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi—thus written—Farwah, who is abandoned.”
This is how it appears there, with the additional word “Abi”; perhaps it too is an error by copyists.
I then found corroborating reports for this hadith which establish its authenticity and require us to include it in al-Sahihah. Imam Ahmad said (5/241): Qutaybah ibn Saʿid narrated to us: Ibn Lahiʿah narrated to us, from al-Harith ibn Yazid, from ʿUlayy ibn Rabah, from Abd Allah ibn Amr ibn al-As, from Muʿadh, who said:
“The Messenger of Allah entrusted us with five matters: ‘Whoever does any one of them is guaranteed by Allah ...’”
He then mentioned the foregoing qualities, except for the fourth one, which occurs through another route that I shall mention shortly, if Allah Most High wills.
This chain of transmission is authentic: its narrators are trustworthy and are among Muslim’s narrators, except that Muslim only narrated Ibn Lahiʿah in conjunction with another narrator, owing to his well-known poor memory. Yet this is safeguarded here, for Qutaybah ibn Saʿid’s narration from him is authentic, as has been explained repeatedly above. Al-Tabarani also transmitted it in al-Muʿjam al-Kabir (20/37–38) through other routes from Ibn Lahiʿah, with this chain.
Abd al-Rahman ibn Jubayr ibn Nufayr also corroborated him, narrating from Abd Allah ibn Amr with the wording:
“Whoever strives in the path of Allah is guaranteed by Allah ...”
He then mentioned the remainder of the qualities, except for the second: the quality concerning the funeral procession.
Ibn Khuzaymah transmitted it in his Sahih (1495), and through him Ibn Hibban (1595), al-Bayhaqi in al-Sunan (9/166–167), al-Tabarani as well (20/37/54), and al-Hakim
