been able to benefit from them, because of their ignorance of this field. They are merely blind followers who transmit what they find. The proof is before you: Abū Dāwūd’s chain of transmission is as clear in its authenticity as the sun, yet they failed to recognize it. When they imagined that it was in Ṣaḥīḥ Ibn Ḥibbān, they gave it an intermediate rating: neither declaring it authentic nor weak, but saying, “Good on account of its supporting evidence”!! Half-measures.
This is generally their practice: rating as good in this manner, or simply grading as good, many reports that are authentic and many that, upon careful examination, are weak—all to conceal their ignorance! Allah is the One whose help is sought.
