ʿAbd al-Razzāq also narrated it (11/142/21047) by way of Qurrah, from ʿAwn ibn ʿAbd Allah, as a report attributed to the Companion. Abū Nuʿaym likewise narrated it in al-Ḥilyah (4/248) by way of Yazīd ibn Hārūn, from al-Masʿūdī, from ʿAwn … and mentioned it, also as a report attributed to the Companion.
3382—“Indeed, the person closest to Allah is the one who is first to greet others with peace.”
It is narrated from Abū Umāmah through several routes:
The first: from Abū Khālid Wahb, from Abū Sufyān al-Ḥimṣī, from Abū Umāmah, who said:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: … and he mentioned it.
It was narrated by Abū Dāwūd (5197), and through him by al-Bayhaqī in Shuʿab al-Īmān (6/433/8787).
I say: Its chain of transmission is authentic. Its narrators are trustworthy narrators of al-Bukhārī, apart from Abū Khālid Wahb—who is Wahb ibn Khālid al-Ḥimṣī—and he is unquestionably trustworthy.
His shaykh, Abū Sufyān al-Ḥimṣī, was named Muḥammad ibn Ziyād al-Alhānī.
There is another, abbreviated route from him. Ibn Abī Shaybah said in al-Muṣannaf (8/435/5788): Ismāʿīl ibn ʿAyyāsh narrated from Muḥammad ibn Ziyād al-Alhānī, from Abū Umāmah, who said: “Our Prophet ﷺ commanded us to spread the greeting of peace.”
Through Ibn Abī Shaybah, it was narrated by Ibn Mājah (3693) and al-Ṭabarānī in al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr (8/131/7525). He also narrated it through two other routes from Ismāʿīl ibn ʿAyyāsh, with the same chain.
This is an authentic Syrian chain of transmission.
