I say: Its chain of transmission meets the criteria of Muslim. Wakīʿ also corroborated him in narrating it. Muslim recorded it.
So did Yaḥyā ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Sālim and ʿAmr ibn al-Ḥārith. Muslim and al-Bayhaqī recorded it.
ʿĪsā ibn Yūnus also corroborated him in narrating it. Abū Dāwūd recorded it.
Abū Khālid al-Aḥmar also corroborated him from Hishām with this report. Ibn Mājah recorded it (1/217): Abū Bakr ibn Abī Shaybah narrated to us: Abū Khālid al-Aḥmar narrated to us the same report. Its wording is: “Rub it, wash it, and pray in it.”
Abū Muʿāwiyah also corroborated him, saying: Hishām narrated to us the same report. Aḥmad recorded it (6/345 and 353).
Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah also corroborated him from Hishām with this report, except that he said: “Rub it with water, then sprinkle it.” Al-Tirmidhī recorded it (1/254–255), as did al-Dārimī (1/239), al-Shāfiʿī in al-Umm (1/58), and al-Bayhaqī (1/13; 2/406).
Al-Tirmidhī said: “There are also reports on this subject from Abū Hurayrah and Umm Qays bint Miḥṣan.” He said: “The hadith of Asmāʾ is good and authentic.”
Note: All these narrators from Hishām ibn ʿUrwah agreed in leaving the woman who asked the question unspecified and unnamed, except for Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah in al-Shāfiʿī’s narration, and ʿAmr ibn ʿAwn in al-Dārimī’s
