I say: Only the second and final volume of this book, al-Baʿth (The Resurrection), has been published; consequently, I have not been able to examine its chain of transmission. It is most likely that it comes through al-Ṭayālisī. Allah knows best.
This hadith has many corroborating reports in Majmaʿ al-Zawāʾid. Among the best of them is the hadith of Abū Umāmah al-Bāhilī, who said that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
“The wrongdoer will come on the Day of Resurrection, and when he is upon a bridge over Hell, in darkness and treacherous terrain, the one he wronged will meet him. He will recognize him and recognize the wrong he suffered at his hands. Those who were wronged will continue to exact retribution from those who wronged them, until they strip them of the good deeds they possess. If they have no good deeds, then a measure of the wronged persons’ evil deeds equivalent to the wrong done to them will be laid upon them, until they are brought to the lowest depth of the Fire.”
It was recorded by al-Bukhārī in al-Tārīkh (2/1/228–229)—though he did not give its wording—by Ḥusayn al-Marwazī in Zawāʾid al-Zuhd (499/1420), and by al-Ṭabarānī in al-Muʿjam al-Awsaṭ (6/455/5973), whose wording is cited here, through Ḥusayn al-Muʿallim, from Ayyūb, from al-Jahm ibn Fuḍālah, from him. Al-Ṭabarānī said:
“No one narrated it from Ayyūb except Ḥusayn al-Muʿallim, and Ibn Abī ʿAdī was alone in narrating it.”
I say: Rūḥ—namely, Ibn ʿUbādah—corroborated him in al-Bukhārī’s narration. Its narrators are known and trustworthy, and are among the narrators of the two Ṣaḥīḥs, apart from al-Jahm ibn Fuḍālah. No one besides Ibn Ḥibbān (4/113) declared him trustworthy, and he mentioned that Suwayd Abū Qazʿah narrated from him.
I say: Suwayd is trustworthy, and Ayyūb likewise narrated from him here. Thus, two trustworthy narrators reported from him, so his hadith is good, or close to that; hence, it is suitable as corroborating evidence.
Among these corroborating reports is the hadith of Anas ibn Mālik, whose sourcing has already preceded under no. 3265. *******
