First: al-Husayn ibn Isa al-Hanafi narrated to us: Maʿmar narrated from al-Zuhri, from Abu Hazim, from Ibn ʿAbbas, who said:
While the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was in Medina, he said:
“Allah is Most Great, Allah is Most Great! Allah’s help and victory have come, and the people of Yemen have come: a people pure of heart and gentle in their obedience. Faith is Yemeni, religious understanding is Yemeni, and wisdom is Yemeni.”
Ibn Hibban recorded it (2299—Mawarid), as did al-Tabari in his Tafsir (30/215), and al-Bazzar (3/316/2837—Kashf al-Astar), in an abridged version. Its wording is:
“...when he said: ‘Allah is Most Great! When Allah’s help and victory come, and the people of Yemen have come ...’”
Al-Bazzar said:
“We know of no other report that al-Zuhri transmitted from Abu Hazim with a continuous chain to the Prophet except this one.”
I say: Its narrators are trustworthy, except al-Husayn ibn Isa, who is weak.
Ibn Thawr differed from him regarding its chain of transmission, reporting it from Maʿmar, from ʿIkrimah:
When “When Allah’s help and victory come” was revealed, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
“Allah’s help and victory have come, and the people of Yemen have come ...”—the hadith.
Ibn Jarir recorded it, and its chain is an authentic mursal chain. It has also been reported from ʿIkrimah with a continuous chain to the Prophet, through Ibn ʿAbbas, as follows:
Second: Hilal ibn Khabbab narrated from ʿIkrimah, from Ibn ʿAbbas, who said:
When “When Allah’s help and victory come ...” was revealed, to the end of the surah, he said: “His death was announced
