Abd Allāh ibn Abī Umāmah ibn Thaʿlabah narrated it to him from his father ... Al-Tahdhīb likewise cites it through a group of other reliable narrators from him, apart from Ṣāliḥ ibn Kaysān, and states:
“Ibn Ḥibbān listed him in al-Thiqāt.”
Accordingly, al-Taqrīb states:
“Trustworthy.”
I say: He is indeed found in al-Thiqāt (7/18).
In light of the preceding investigation, it becomes clear that the chain of transmission is good at the very least. Allah knows best.
Moreover, the hadith meets al-Haythamī’s criterion for inclusion in Majmaʿ al-Zawāʾid, yet he did not cite it.
Hishām ibn Saʿd narrated it from Muḥammad ibn Zayd ibn Muhājir ibn Qunfudh al-Taymī, from Ibn Thaʿlabah al-Anṣārī, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Unays al-Juhanī, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
“Among the gravest of major sins are associationism with Allah, undutifulness to one’s parents, and a deliberately false oath. No one takes a judicially imposed oath and adds to it a falsehood, even as little as a mosquito’s wing, without a mark being placed upon his heart until the Day of Resurrection.”
It was recorded by al-Tirmidhī (3023), al-Ṭaḥāwī in al-Mushkil (1/382), al-Ḥākim (4/296)—who authenticated it, and al-Dhahabī agreed with him—al-Bayhaqī in al-Shuʿab (4/218/4843), and al-Ṭabarānī in al-Awsaṭ (3261), from whom Abū Nuʿaym narrated it in al-Ḥilyah (7/327). Al-Tirmidhī said:
“A good, singular hadith. Abū Umāmah al-Anṣārī is Ibn Thaʿlabah; his name is unknown. He narrated hadiths from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.”
