And the second is that ʿUmārah ibn Rāshid is unknown: no one besides al-Ifrīqī narrated from him.
I say: This was all that al-Bazzār knew; and Allah does not burden a soul beyond its capacity. Yet two others narrated from him, as Ibn Abī Ḥātim mentioned in al-Jarḥ wa-al-Taʿdīl, and Ibn ʿAsākir in al-Tārīkh. Ibn Ḥibbān said in al-Thiqāt (5/244):
“The people of Syria and Egypt narrated from him.”
Nevertheless, Abū Ḥātim said:
“Unknown!”
Al-Dhahabī took him to task for this in al-Mughnī, saying:
“Rather, he is known.”
And he said in al-Mīzān:
“I say: A group narrated from him, and he is regarded as truthful.”
Al-Ḥāfiẓ endorsed this in al-Lisān and further supported it with Ibn Ḥibbān’s grading of him as reliable.
I say: Thus, this route is suitable as a corroborating report, if Allah wills.
As for the corroborating hadith: Sulaym ibn ʿĀmir narrated it from Abū Umāmah, who said: The Messenger of Allah, may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him, was asked, “Will the people of Paradise have intercourse?” He replied: “...” He then mentioned something similar to the hadith of the other route, except that he said, “duḥman duḥman,” in place of “a vagina that does not wear out.”
It was recorded by al-Ṭabarānī in al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr (8/187–188/7674), and also by Abū Nuʿaym (368), through Hāshim ibn Zayd and others, from him.
