“Authentic according to the criteria of the two Shaykhs.” Al-Dhahabī concurred with him.
Moreover, Muḥammad ibn Sawāʾ was corroborated in part of this hadith by ʿAbd al-Wahhāb ibn ʿAṭāʾ al-Khaffāf, from Saʿīd, from Qatādah: “Anas ibn Mālik narrated to us” the same report, but without the words: “Then the hypocrites began …,” and so on.
Muslim transmitted it (7/150), as did Aḥmad (3/234) and Abū Yaʿlā (5/329/2953).
Al-Ḥasan ibn Sufyān was likewise corroborated. Ibn Abī ʿĀṣim stated in al-Sunnah (1/247/561): “Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-ʿAllāf narrated to us …,” with the wording:
“The Throne of the Most Merciful shook because of it.”
Al-ʿAllāf himself was corroborated by Muḥammad ibn Thaʿlabah ibn Sawāʾ, who said: “My uncle Muḥammad ibn Sawāʾ narrated to us; Saʿīd narrated to us”—the same as ʿAbd al-Wahhāb al-Khaffāf’s narration.
Al-Ṭabarānī transmitted it in al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr (6/14/5342) through two chains from him.
He is truthful, as stated in al-Taqrīb.
I say: In all these chains and corroborating reports, Saʿīd appears, contrary to Ibn Ḥibbān’s narration, which has Shuʿbah. This further confirms its error, as noted earlier.
The annotator of al-Iḥsān overlooked this and passed over it without any comment, despite having cited Aḥmad’s and Muslim’s narration from al-Khaffāf, as well as al-Ṭabarānī’s narration from Ibn Thaʿlabah. He missed Ibn Abī ʿĀṣim’s narration; yet all of them contain Saʿīd. Thus, he did not notice the error in Ibn Ḥibbān’s narration. The one protected from error is only he whom Allah protects.
Furthermore, the statement concerning the Throne’s shaking has numerous supporting reports from a number of the Companions. Al-Ḥāfiẓ said (7/124):
