al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr, with a chain of transmission whose narrators are trustworthy, apart from al-Ṭabarānī’s shaykh—reports something similar, as al-Ḥāfiẓ said, though it is shorter than this version. I therefore cited it in the other book (6620), but it is, in general, a sound supporting report for this hadith.
Similar to it is Anas’s hadith recorded by al-Tirmidhī and others. In place of the final sentence of the hadith under discussion, it states:
“Then ask Him for what you need; He says: ‘Yes, yes.’”
I likewise cited it there on account of this wording (3688).
The hadith also has a supporting report narrated by Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr ibn ʿAṭāʾ, who said: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said to Sawdah:
“Every morning, glorify Allah ten times, proclaim His greatness ten times, praise Him ten times, and say, ‘Forgive me,’ ten times; for He says: ‘I have done so, I have done so.’”
Ibn Abī Shaybah recorded it in al-Muṣannaf (10/294/9480), through the route of Shabīb ibn Gharqadah, from him.
I say: This is an authentic chain of transmission; its narrators are trustworthy and are among the narrators of al-Bukhārī and Muslim. However, it is mursal, for Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr ibn ʿAṭāʾ was the Qurashī al-ʿĀmirī, a Successor who died around 120 AH.
It has authentically been established from the Prophet’s practice, peace and blessings be upon him, which confirms that the remembrance mentioned in the hadith is to be said during the prayer. This is indicated by what has come through several routes from ʿĀʾishah, who said:
When he rose at night, he would begin his prayer by proclaiming Allah’s greatness ten times, praising Him ten times, glorifying Him ten times, declaring His oneness ten times, and seeking His forgiveness ten times … the hadith.
It was narrated by Abū Dāwūd and others, and is cited in Ṣaḥīḥ Abī Dāwūd (742) and Ṣifat al-Ṣalāh.
