his precision. Bukayr ibn Mismār also corroborated him, from Zayd ibn Aslam, and identified Umm Rāfiʿ, saying: “From Salmā, the mother of the sons of Rāfiʿ …” He then related the hadith in similar terms, but left unspecified where the words were to be said; whereas the shaykh—that is, ʿAṭṭāf—understood it to mean that they were intended to be said during the prayer. We have also received it through another route which may indicate that it is to be said within the prayer.”
I say: He then cited it, again through Ibn Mandah’s route, with his authentic chain from Hishām ibn Saʿd, from Zayd ibn Aslam, from ʿAbdullāh ibn Wahb, from Umm Rāfiʿ, who said:
“O Messenger of Allah, tell me of a deed with which I may begin my prayer …” He then related the hadith in similar terms. He said: “Al-Tirmidhī also narrated it and declared it authentic, from Anas, that Umm Sulaym said:
“O Messenger of Allah, teach me words that I may say in my prayer …” He then mentioned something similar.
Abū Yaʿlā also narrated it through another route from Anas, with the wording: “When you perform the obligatory prayer …”
The narration of Hishām ibn Saʿd provides an additional narrator between Zayd ibn Aslam and Umm Rāfiʿ. And Allah knows best.”
I say: He is referring to ʿAbdullāh ibn Wahb. Al-Hāfiẓ did not say anything about him, but I do not consider it unlikely that he was ʿAbdullāh ibn Wahb ibn Zamʿah ibn al-Aswad ibn al-Muṭṭalib al-Asadī al-Aṣghar. He was a Medinan narrator of this generation; he narrated from Umm Salamah, and a number of people narrated from him. Ibn Ḥibbān included him among the trustworthy narrators in The Trustworthy Narrators (5/48), and al-Tirmidhī graded one of his reports good (3873). Al-Hāfiẓ said in al-Taqrīb: “Trustworthy.”
As for the corroborating narration of Bukayr ibn Mismār mentioned by al-Hāfiẓ, al-Ṭabarānī narrated it in
