“I set out with my brother Maʿbad to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, after the Conquest, and I said: ‘Messenger of Allah, accept his pledge of allegiance for migration.’ He replied: ‘Migration has passed for those to whom it applied.’ I asked, ‘Then for what?’ He replied: ‘For Islam and jihad.’”
Another narration from Abū ʿUthmān al-Nahdī adds: “I later met Maʿbad—who was the elder of the two—and asked him. He said: ‘Mujāshiʿ spoke the truth.’”
Its chain of transmission is authentic according to the criteria of the two Shaykhs.
The reader will note that, in the first narration, the one offering the pledge was Mujāshiʿ’s nephew, whereas in this narration he is his actual brother, whose name was Maʿbad. This is more correct. And Allah knows best.
As for his statement, peace and blessings be upon him, “There is no migration after the Conquest,” it has been authentically reported from Ibn ʿAbbās, ʿĀʾishah, and Abū Saʿīd. I have traced its sources in Irwāʾ al-Ghalīl (1173).
291 — “On the night I was taken on the Night Journey, I saw men whose lips were being clipped with scissors of fire. I asked: ‘Who are these, Gabriel?’ He replied: ‘They are the preachers among your community: they enjoin righteousness upon people but forget themselves, even though they recite the Scripture. Will they not reason?!’”
This is narrated from Anas, may Allah be pleased with him, through four chains:
The first is through Mālik ibn Dīnār from him.
Abū Yaʿlā recorded it in his Musnad (folio 198/1): Muḥammad ibn al-Minhāl narrated to us; Yazīd narrated to us; Hishām al-Dastuwāʾī narrated to us from al-Mughīrah, Mālik ibn Dīnār’s son-in-law, from Mālik ibn Dīnār.
Ibn Ḥibbān also recorded it in his Ṣaḥīḥ (no. 52, according to its arrangement): Al-Ḥasan ibn Sufyān informed us; Muḥammad ibn al-Minhāl al-Ḍarīr narrated to us: Yazīd ibn Zurayʿ narrated to us through the same chain.
