and by ʿAbd Allah in the supplementary material to al-Faḍāʾil (2/938/1804), al-Bazzār in his Musnad (3/247/2673—Kashf al-Astār), Abū Yaʿlā (2/139/820), al-Nasāʾī likewise in al-Faḍāʾil (93/71), al-Fasawī in al-Maʿrifah (1/502), al-Ḥākim (3/328 and 329), and Ibn ʿAsākir in al-Tārīkh (8/930–931), through several routes from Muḥammad ibn Ṭalḥah al-Taymī: Abū Suhayl Nāfiʿ ibn Mālik narrated to me from Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyib, from Saʿd ibn Abī Waqqāṣ, who said: The Messenger of Allah, may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him, said to al-ʿAbbās: ... He then mentioned it.

Al-Bazzār said:

“We know of it as attributed to the Prophet only through this route, and it has no chain of transmission other than this one. Muḥammad ibn Ṭalḥah was a well-known Medinan.”

Al-Ḥākim said:

“Its chain of transmission is authentic.” Al-Dhahabī concurred!

I say: This is open to criticism, for this Muḥammad ibn Ṭalḥah has been criticized with regard to his retention. Hence, al-Ḥāfiẓ said in al-Taqrīb:

“Truthful, but makes mistakes.”

Al-Dhahabī said in al-Mīzān:

“He was well known and truthful, and was declared reliable. Abū Ḥātim said: ‘He is not used as evidence.’”

I say: The hadith of one such as him is good, provided that he does not contradict stronger narrators.

Some weak narrators have reported it from him, from Ibn al-Munkadir, from Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyib, with the same report. Ibn ʿAsākir recorded it (8/929) through Muḥammad ibn Yūnus al-Baṣrī: Yaʿqūb ibn Muḥammad al-Zuhrī narrated to us; Muḥammad ibn Ṭalḥah al-Taymī narrated to us with it. Ibn ʿAsākir said:
