Mishkat (6131), where it is graded good; it was also authenticated by al-Tirmidhi and Ibn Hibban (2216).
It has a supporting report from the hadith of Umm Salamah, but it contains two defects; see Mishkat (6132, second recension). *
3319—“I, you, these two, and this one who is lying down”—meaning Ali—“will be in one place on the Day of Resurrection”—that is, Fatimah and her two sons, al-Hasan and al-Husayn.
Al-Tayalisi narrated it in his Musnad (26/190): Amr ibn Thabit narrated to us from his father, from Abu Fakhitah, who said: Ali said:
“The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, visited us and spent the night with us, while al-Hasan and al-Husayn were asleep. Al-Hasan asked for water, so the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, went to a waterskin of ours and began squeezing it into a cup, then gave him to drink. Al-Husayn reached for it to drink, but he prevented him and began with al-Hasan. Fatimah said: ‘Messenger of Allah, it seems that he is dearer to you!’ He replied: ‘No, but he asked for water first.’ Then the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said …” and he mentioned it.
Through the route of Abu Dawud al-Tayalisi, it was also narrated by al-Tabarani in al-Muʿjam al-Kabir (3/31–32/2622), and Ibn Asakir in al-Tarikh (5/39–40).
Al-Bazzar also narrated it in full in his Musnad (3/223/2616), and Abu Yaʿla narrated it in abridged form (1/393/510), through two other routes from Amr ibn Thabit, with the same chain. Al-Bazzar said:
“We know of no narration from Ali except through this chain of transmission!”
