that is weak. It contains some objectionable additions, and for that reason I included it in al-Silsilah al-Ḍaʿīfah (6549). I also traced thereunder the referenced hadith of ʿImrān, which does not state that the woman was Abu Dharr’s wife. The hadith has already been traced in this “Series” (2859), though there is an additional point of benefit here. *
- “People will come after you who will receive a Book between two covers. They will believe in it and act upon what it contains; they will have a greater reward than you.”
Al-Bukhārī recorded it in Afʿāl al-ʿIbād (124/390, al-Salafiyyah edition), al-Rūyānī in his Musnad (33/720/1–2), al-Ṭabarānī in al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr (1/741/1)—and, through his route, al-Mizzī in Tahdhīb al-Kamāl—al-Harawī in Dhamm al-Kalām (folio 148/1), and Ibn ʿAsākir in Tārīkh Dimashq (8/95/1), through the route of ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ṣāliḥ, who said: Muʿāwiyah ibn Ṣāliḥ narrated to me from Ṣāliḥ ibn Jubayr, who said:
Abū Jumʿah al-Anṣārī, a Companion of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, came to Jerusalem to pray there. Rajāʾ ibn Ḥaywah was with us at that time. When he had finished, we went out with him to bid him farewell. As we were about to leave, he said:
“You have a gift and a due right from me: I shall relate to you a hadith that I heard from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him.”
We said, “Tell it to us, may Allah have mercy on you.” He said:
“We were with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and Muʿādh ibn Jabal was with us, making ten of us in all. We said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, are there any people who will have a greater reward than us? We believed in you and followed you.’ He said:
‘What could prevent you from that, when the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, is in your midst and revelation comes to you from heaven? Rather, there will be people …’” The wording is al-Rūyānī’s.
