And Abū al-Ghayth’s given name was Sālim; both men are trustworthy.
It has a corroborating report from Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
“Allah will say, ‘O Adam!’ He will reply, ‘At Your service and at Your pleasure; all goodness is in Your hands!’ He will say, ‘Bring forth the contingent for Hell.’ Adam will ask, ‘And what is the contingent for Hell?’ He will say, ‘Nine hundred and ninety-nine out of every thousand.’ That is when the young child will turn grey, ‘every pregnant woman will miscarry her burden, and you will see people as though intoxicated, though they are not intoxicated; rather, the punishment of Allah is severe.’”
This weighed heavily upon them, so they said, “O Messenger of Allah, which one of us will be that man?” He said, “Rejoice, for there will be one thousand from Gog and Magog and one from among you.” Then he said, “By Him in whose hand is my soul, I hope that you will constitute one-third of the people of Paradise.” He said: So we praised Allah and proclaimed His greatness. Then he said, “By Him in whose hand is my soul, I hope that you will constitute half the people of Paradise. Your likeness among the nations is that of a white hair on the hide of a black bull, or a mark on a donkey’s foreleg.”
Al-Bukhārī (6530) and Muslim (1/139–140) narrated it through Jarīr, from al-Aʿmash, from Abū Ṣāliḥ, from Abū Saʿīd, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said it. It is also included in Ṣaḥīḥ al-Jāmiʿ (7998), and its documentation has preceded in this Silsilah, under no. 3250. *
- “Shall I not tell you of something which, if you act upon it, you will catch up with those who have gone before you, none after you will catch up with you, and you will be the best among those in whose midst you live—except for one who does the same? You should glorify Allah, praise Him, and proclaim His greatness thirty-three times after every prayer.”
It has been narrated from Abū Hurayrah, Abū Dharr, Abū al-Dardāʾ, Ibn ʿAbbās, and Ibn ʿUmar. As for the hadith of Abū Hurayrah, a number of people narrated it from him:
