However, he did correctly cite its source—may Allah have mercy on him—in Fatḥ al-Bārī (11/419), under the chapter, “Allah Will Grasp the Earth on the Day of Resurrection.” He then said:
“It is mentioned here in meaning.”
By this, he was referring—may Allah have mercy on him—to the hadith of Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī, in which the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
“The earth on the Day of Resurrection will be a single loaf of bread…”
It further states:
“Shall I not tell you what the people of Paradise will have as a relish?” He said:
“Their relish will be bālām and nūn.” They asked, “What are these?” He said:
“An ox and a fish, from the extra lobes of whose livers seventy thousand will eat.”
It is found in al-Bukhārī’s Ṣaḥīḥ as no. 6520.
Muslim (8/128) also narrated it.*
- “The first to be summoned on the Day of Resurrection will be Adam. His descendants will come into view, and they will be told: ‘This is your father Adam.’ He will say: ‘At Your service and at Your pleasure!’ Then He will say: ‘Bring forth the contingent for Hell from among your descendants.’ He will ask: ‘My Lord, how many am I to bring forth?’ He will say: ‘Bring forth ninety-nine out of every hundred.’ They said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, if ninety-nine out of every hundred of us are taken, what will remain of us?!’ He said: ‘My Ummah, among the nations, is like a white hair on a black bull.’”
Al-Bukhārī (6529) and Aḥmad (2/378) narrated it through Thawr, from Abū al-Ghayth, from Abū Hurayrah, who reported that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said it. Thawr is Ibn Zayd al-Daylī.
