This is further supported by a version narrated by Aḥmad (3/271) from ʿAffān: Ḥumayd narrated to us: Thābit and Ḥumayd informed us, from Anas ibn Mālik ... and he mentioned the same account of ʿAbd Allāh ibn Salām.
Thus, this chain of transmission combines the first report of Thābit and the second report of Ḥumayd within a single account.
Ibn Ḥibbān (7423), Abū Yaʿlā (3414), and Abū Nuʿaym in al-Dalāʾil (p. 300) also narrated it through Ḥammād, with this chain of transmission.
It also has a corroborating report from Thawbān:
Muslim narrated it (1/173), as part of a longer account, with the wording:
The Jew said, “What will be their welcome gift when they enter Paradise?” He said:
“The extra lobe of a fish’s liver.”
(Note):
Al-Bukhārī cited, without a complete chain, the wording of the hadith under the chapter heading in his Ṣaḥīḥ (11/415), saying:
“Abū Saʿīd said: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
‘The first food eaten by the people of Paradise will be the extra lobe of a fish’s liver.’”
Al-Ḥāfiẓ Ibn Ḥajar said in Taghlīq al-Taʿlīq (5/184):
“This is part of the hadith of intercession. The author narrated it in full, with its chain, in the Book of Tawḥīd, and also in the description of Paradise within the Book of the Beginning of Creation.”
I say: Yet it does not occur in any of these places!
