And the final clause of the hadith was recorded by al-Bukhārī in his Ṣaḥīḥ (4/104), through Musaddad, from ʿAbd Allāh, attributed to the Prophet, with the wording:
“Indeed, the people most severely punished by Allah on the Day of Resurrection will be the image-makers.”
- “Four things are among happiness: a righteous wife, a spacious home, a good neighbour, and a comfortable mount. And four things are among misery: a bad neighbour, a wicked wife, and a cramped home.”
Ibn Ḥibbān recorded it in his Ṣaḥīḥ (1232), as did al-Khaṭīb in al-Tārīkh (12/99), through al-Faḍl ibn Mūsā, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Saʿīd ibn Abī Hind, from Ismāʿīl ibn Muḥammad ibn Saʿd ibn Abī Waqqāṣ, from his father, from his grandfather, who said:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said it. He then cited the hadith.
I say: This is an authentic chain according to the criteria of al-Bukhārī and Muslim.
Aḥmad also recorded it (1/168) through Muḥammad ibn Abī Ḥumayd, from Ismāʿīl ibn Muḥammad ibn Saʿd, through the same chain, with similar wording, but without mentioning “a good neighbour” or “a bad neighbour.”
Al-Dhahabī included this Muḥammad ibn Abī Ḥumayd in al-Ḍuʿafāʾ and said:
“They declared him weak.”
And al-Ḥāfiẓ said in al-Taqrīb: “Weak.”
Al-Ṭabarānī also recorded it in al-Kabīr (1/19/1) and al-Awsaṭ (1/163/1), through Ibrāhīm ibn ʿUthmān, from al-ʿAbbās ibn Dhurayḥ, from Muḥammad ibn Saʿd, through the same chain. He said:
