In the hadith of Salamah ibn al-Akwaʿ:
When the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, returned from Khaybar, I said, “O Messenger of Allah, will you permit me to recite some rajaz verse?”
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, gave him permission, whereupon ʿUmar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, said, “Be mindful of what you say!” So I said:
“By Allah, were it not for Allah, we would not have been guided,

The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
“You have spoken the truth.

When I had finished my rajaz verse, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
“Who said this?”
I replied, “My brother.” The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
“May Allah have mercy on him.” … the hadith.
Muslim and others narrated it, and it has been referenced in Sahih Abi Dawud (2289). *

Ahmad narrated it (3/449): Makki related to us: al-Juʿayd related to us, from Yazid ibn Khusayfah, from
