This chain of transmission is very weak. This Suwwar was an abandoned narrator of hadith, as al-Daraqutni and others stated. Atiyyah al-Awfi is also weak.
A useful note: al-Nihayah states:
“The zammārah is a prostitute.” Al-Azhari said: “It is possible that what is meant is a female singer. A melodious song is termed zamīr; zammara means ‘he sang’; and the reed pipe with which one plays is the zammārah.” *
- “Indeed, the Muslim who commits the gravest offence against the Muslims is one who asks about something that has not been prohibited [and probes into it], whereupon it is prohibited [for the people] because of his question.”
It was recorded by al-Bukhari (7289), Muslim (8/92), Abu Dawud (4610), Ibn Hibban (1/61/110), al-Humaydi in his Musnad (37/67), Ahmad (1/176 and 179), al-Bazzar in al-Bahr al-Zakhkhar (3/292/1084), and Abu Ya'la (2/104–105), through several routes from al-Zuhri, from Amir ibn Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas, from his father, that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: ... and then cited it. The wording is al-Bukhari’s, while the additions are from Muslim and others.
It has a corroborating report from the hadith of Umayr ibn Qatadah, recorded by al-Hakim (3/626) and al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir (17/48/105), and, through the latter, by Abu Nu'aym in al-Hilyah (3/357). Its chain includes Bakr ibn Khunays, who is weak, as al-Haythami (5/231) and others stated. *
- “O Humayra! Would you like to watch them?” That is, the Abyssinians playing and dancing in the mosque.
It was recorded by al-Nasa'i in al-Sunan al-Kubra (5/307/8951) and al-Tahawi in Mushkil al-Athar (1/117). Both said: Yunus ibn Abd al-A'la narrated to us; he said: Ibn Wahb narrated to us; he said:
