I have not prepared much in the way of deeds for it; but I love Allah and His Messenger.” He said: “Then you will be with those whom you love, and you will have what you have hoped for...”
It was recorded by Ahmad (3/226 and 283), Abu Yaʿla (5/144/2758), and, through his route, Ibn Hibban (1/387/565).
I say: This is a good chain of transmission, in which both Mubarak and al-Hasan explicitly stated direct transmission. It is a strong corroborating report for the wording of the hadith under discussion. And Allah knows best.
Mubarak has another chain of transmission: he said, “Thabit al-Bunani narrated to us from Anas that a man was with the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him...” —the hadith, up to the words: “May He for whose sake you loved me love you.”
It was recorded by Abu Dawud (5125), al-Hakim (4/171), who declared it authentic, and Ahmad (3/150). Al-Husayn ibn Waqid corroborated him, saying: “Thabit narrated it to me likewise.” It was recorded by Ibn Hibban (570) and Ahmad (3/140–141).
ʿAbd Allah ibn al-Zubayr al-Bahili also corroborated him, saying: “Thabit narrated it to us likewise.” It was recorded by Abu Yaʿla (6/162/3442), and, through his route, Ibn ʿAdi in al-Kamil (4/175), as well as ʿAli ibn al-Jaʿd, as cited earlier under no. 418.
The hadith is found in the two Sahih collections and elsewhere, narrated from Anas and Ibn Masʿud, similar to Mubarak’s report from al-Hasan from Anas, but with the wording:
“A person will be with those whom he loves.”
It has been documented in al-Rawd al-Nadir and elsewhere; see Sahih al-Jami al-Saghir (6565). The reason I have traced the sources of ʿAbd al-Razzaq’s hadith here is simply that, when I traced al-Mishkat
