Among them is the report from Ibrāhīm ibn Maysarah that a Bedouin came upon the Companions of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, ... The hadith is similar to the hadith cited in the heading.
It was narrated by Ḥusayn ibn Ḥasan al-Marwazī in al-Birr wa-l-Ṣilah (31/156, manuscript): “ʿAbd al-Wahhāb al-Thaqafī informed us; Ayyūb narrated to us from him.”
I say: This is an authentic mursal chain.
It then became clear that I had previously cited this hadith under no. 2232. However, its documentation here contains new benefits that were not mentioned there. What was decreed has come to pass.
3249—“Are you not pleased that I should be your father and ʿĀʾishah your mother?” He said this to Bishr ibn ʿAqrabah when he wept over his father’s martyrdom.
Al-Bukhārī narrated it in al-Tārīkh (1/2/78), and through his route Ibn ʿAsākir in Tārīkh Dimashq (3/377). He said: ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUthmān ibn ʿAṭāʾ told me: Ḥujr ibn al-Ḥārith al-Ghassānī narrated to us: I heard ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAwf al-Qārī say: I heard Bishr ibn ʿAqrabah say:
“My father was martyred alongside the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, in one of his campaigns. The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, passed by me while I was weeping and said to me: ‘Be quiet. Are you not pleased ...’”
Ibn ʿAsākir then narrated it through another route from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUthmān, but in it he named him as ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿUthmān ibn ʿAṭāʾ. He omitted the words, “Be quiet,” and mentioned in their place: “O dear one! What makes you weep? Are you not pleased ...”
