Yazīd ibn al-Hād, from ʿAmr [the freedman of al-Muṭṭalib], from Quhayd ibn Muṭarrif (1), with the same wording.
It was also reported by al-Bukhārī, Ibn Ḥibbān in Quhayd’s entry in al-Thiqāt (5/326), and al-Mizzī in al-Tahdhīb (22/95), through ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ṣāliḥ: “Al-Layth narrated to me likewise.” Its chain of transmission is also authentic. However, there are three different versions of its chain from al-Layth:
This is one of them.
The second: Aḥmad (2/339) and al-Nasāʾī in al-Sunan al-Kubrā (2/308/3245) said: “Qutaybah ibn Saʿīd informed us: al-Layth narrated to us, from Ibn al-Hād, from ʿAmr ibn Quhayd al-Ghifārī, from Abū Hurayrah.”
Qutaybah was corroborated in this by Yūnus, as Aḥmad also said: “Yūnus narrated to us: al-Layth narrated to us likewise.”
The third: Shuʿayb ibn al-Layth reported it, saying: “Al-Layth informed us, from Ibn al-Hād, from Quhayd ibn Muṭarrif,” thereby omitting ʿAmr from between Ibn al-Hād and Quhayd.
It was also reported by al-Nasāʾī (3546) and al-Bayhaqī; however, he coupled ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAbd al-Ḥakam with Shuʿayb.
They were corroborated by Abū Salamah al-Khuzāʿī: “Al-Layth narrated to us likewise,” except that he did not name Quhayd, but said: “Ibn Muṭarrif.” It was reported by Aḥmad (2/360). Al-Bayhaqī then said:
“This is how I found it; but the correct version is: from Ibn al-Hād, from ʿAmr ibn Abī ʿAmr, from Quhayd.”
That is, as in the first version. The two hadith masters, al-Mizzī and al-ʿAsqalānī, followed him in this;
