Al-Dhahabī said of him:
“Trustworthy, though there is some criticism of him despite his extensive learning. It was said that he was illiterate, and he was among the ascetics of the Shiʿah.”
Al-Ḥāfiẓ said:
“Truthful and ascetic; he was inclined toward Shiʿism.”
I say: A narrator of his like is relied upon by the scholars unless his error becomes evident. And Allah knows best.
Note: In al-Daylamī, “Sayyār ibn Ḥātim” has been corrupted into “Sufyān al-Thawrī”!
The commentator on al-Firdaws (4/172/6535) did not notice this and reproduced the error!
Nor did he make any comment on its chain of transmission.
Concerning the hadith, al-Haythamī said (2/287):
“Al-Bazzār narrated it, and its narrators are trustworthy.” *
3232 — “Part of the completeness of your Islam is that you pay the zakah of your wealth.”
Ibn Abī ʿĀṣim narrated it in al-Āḥād wa-al-Mathānī (4/309/2334): Yaʿqūb ibn Ḥumayd narrated to us: ʿĪsā ibn al-Ḥaḍramī ibn Kulthūm ibn ʿAlqamah ibn Nājiya al-Khuzāʿī narrated to us from his grandfather, Kulthūm, from his father, that the Prophet said to them during the campaign of al-Muraysīʿ, when they embraced Islam: … and he then mentioned it.
Al-Ṭabarānī also narrated it in al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr (18/8/6): Aḥmad ibn ʿAmr al-Khallāl al-Makkī narrated to us: Yaʿqūb ibn Ḥumayd narrated to us with the same chain. He added to the lineage of Nājiya, stating: “ibn al-Ḥārith al-Khuzāʿī.”
